The guitar is one of the most popular, accessible and expressive instruments on the planet with a notable and continued legacy of influence on our music culture.

I have been playing the guitar for around 15 years, becoming a professional musician after graduating the University of the Highlands and Islands, Perth, with a degree in music. Since then I have been involved in a large number of projects, playing in everything from shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to a convention in Zoetermeer. (Netherlands) Currently I play regularly around Edinburgh and Scotland with Wedding/Function band The Kuil.

Teaching forms the other half of my professional life. Based in Midlothian, I teach a across a range of genre's and ages, making sure that every student gets a tailored experience to suit there goals and taste in music.

For those who prefer to teach themselves, I run an online subscription service here that provides a place to go to for reliable information, tuition and resources for self taught guitarists.

If you have any questions, whether it concerns getting started with lessons or anything I can do for you as a musician, feel free to get in touch.

Online Hub For Self Taught Guitarists

Having a good tutor to give one to one lessons and guide you through the process of learning is invaluable (obviously given that that is what I do for a living, this is not an unbiased opinion) but this type of tuition doesn't always suit everyone, leading many to teach themselves. I did the same for years before going to university to get my degree in music and whilst there, I quickly discovered gaps in my technique and knowledge that my tutors helped me fill. Since graduating and beginning my own teaching business, I have seen similar gaps when students come to me having taught themselves for a while.

So this inspired me to create a hub where self taught guitarists can come and get reliable information, tuition and find all the resources they may need to further their skills and knowledge. This isn’t designed like a traditional guitar course where it takes you through playing guitar step by step. Instead it’s a collection of video tutorials and resources covering a wealth of information that you can access whenever you need it. So if you are looking at a song with a particular techinique, a chord that you don’t know or some theory that you are unsure of, you can come here, look up the relevant topic and find reliable information on that particular skill or bit of knowledge that you need. This works as a subscription service, costing just £10 a month that you are free to cancel at anytime.

Launched at the end of 2020, a new video is added every week so as to build the site into a comprehensive database of knowledge that you can access whenever you like.

The subscription includes........

  • Access to a wide range of videos discussing various aspects of technique and theory

  • Each video comes with a downloadable PDF

  • Each topic is designed to be as self contained as possible,  so that you can work on what is important to you.

  • Access to a large number of resources such as chord and scale diagrams as well as blank versions of the diagrams for note taking

  • A new video every week so that you always have something to work on

Learning guitar can be a daunting process, particularly with so much material readily available online. Some very useful, some not so much.

A guitar tutor can help you make sense of it all by filtering out the myths and give you immediate, personal feedback to point you in the right direction to be able play the music you want to play.

I aim to teach guitar in a manner that is specifically tailored towards each students personal goals and taste in music, whether that means strumming a few chords to pop songs you like, or getting stuck in to some theory heavy shred.

Lessons are available from your own home (with a little extra fee added for travel) or mine in Newtongrange.

£25 per session

A 1 hour weekly lesson tailored to the music you want to learn

£14 per session

A 30 minute weekly lesson tailored to the music you want to learn

Peter makes lessons fun, he easily manages an excited 10 year old and 6 year old, keeping their attention for the whole lesson while incorporating learning with a good mix of games. My two always look forward to their lessons and Peter takes time to listen to what they would like to do. Peter always gives a great update on progress at the end of each lesson and we really notice progress week to week with their guitar playing
